2016 APPL Partnership Awards

The APPL Partnership Awards celebrate the best in public lands partnerships, recognizing individuals, organizations, publications, products, programs and services that embody leading edge achievements in the preservation of public lands and the enrichment of visitors. 

This year's program recognizes excellence in public lands partnerships, innovative solutions to challenges and outstanding programs and events that enhance the visitor experience on public lands. Those who care deeply about public lands partnerships – including APPL member organizations, other nonprofit organizations, land management agency employees, vendor partners and individuals may submit a nomination to the Partnership Awards program.

For entries submitted for Publication of the Year, Innovative Product and Outstanding Public Engagement, we highly encourage sending supporting evidence that best demonstrates impact, innovation and context related to your submission. Please email URL links, online documents or web content, brochures, photos and other media to awards@appl.org or mail a thumbdrive with your files to the APPL office. Hard copies of materials may also be required. See specific categories for more information. 

New this Year! We are introducing a People's Choice Award for the Publication of the Year, Innovative Product and Outstanding Public Engagement categories in an effort to promote these submissions in a fun, crowd-pleasing way. Stay tuned for more information.

 


The following awards honor individuals and organizations that are key to successful and vibrant public lands partnerships:

Recognizes an exemplary partnership for a stunning achievement to protect and preserve our public lands and enhance the experiences of their visitors and users. The award is presented in tandem to both the nonprofit and agency partners for their shared achievements.

Recognizes a public land management agency employee for outstanding accomplishments in championing, cultivating and leading partnerships. The award is presented to an individual currently employed by a federal or state public land management agency.

Recognizes a company that has demonstrated exceptional achievement to enhance the quality of the visitor experience in America’s public lands. This award is presented to a corporation that has made an impact through activities like product development, cause marketing and philanthropic support.

The following awards celebrate products, programs and initiatives created in partnership that enrich and enliven our public lands:

Recognizes a book or other publication created in partnership by a nonprofit organization and a land management agency that embodies innovation in educating and interpreting public lands to its readers and impacts a substantial audience. Two awards are given annually based on the annual revenue of the nonprofit public lands partner that helped develop the product. Nominees may be produced in any media (e.g. hardback, paperback and/or digital) and must have been published in calendar year 2014 or 2015.

Please mail (5) copies that best represent your submission to the APPL office so that they are received December 18, 2015. Copies will be shared with judges for review and will then be donated. We highly encourage sending supporting evidence that best demonstrates impact, innovation and context related to your submission. Please email URL links, online documents or web content, brochures, photos and other media to awards@appl.org or mail a thumbdrive with your files to the APPL office by December 18, 2015.

Nomination fee: $60 for APPL members, Agency Partners and VSP donors; $90 for nonmembers

Recognizes an interpretive product of any medium created in partnership by a nonprofit organization and a land management agency that embodies a path-breaking approach to achieve a public lands mission. Eligible nominees include, but are not limited to, replica pottery, jewelry, mobile apps and clothing or outerwear. Nominated products must have been published in calendar year 2014 or 2015.

Please mail (5) copies that best represent your submission to the APPL office so that they are received December 18, 2015. Copies will be shared with judges for review and will then be donated. We highly encourage sending supporting evidence that best demonstrates impact, innovation and context related to your submission. Recognizes exemplary products, displays, programs or services created in partnership by a nonprofit organization and a land management agency that advance meaningful and sustainable connections between individuals and America’s public lands and was carried out in the 2014 or 2015 calendar year.

Awards are given in two categories: one for products or displays, and one for programs or services. Examples of eligible nominees include, but are not limited to:


  • Products or Displays: Trail guides and brochures, annual reports, capital campaign materials, campaign airport kiosks or retail displays, mobile apps and radio programs
  • Program or Service: Educational sessions, lecture series, conservation corps project, residential learning programs, membership or donor outreach initiatives

If your submission is best represented in physical form, please mail (5) copies to the APPL office so that they are received December 18, 2015. We highly encourage sending supporting evidence that best demonstrates impact, innovation and context related to your submission.
